The first time Ursula Medley started to paint with oil on board, working on a 12”x 12” format, it was to facilitate the development of her skill as an outdoor painter – a Tom Tomson for our times, working out of a van alongside the ‘Sea to Sky’ highway. Medley wanted to learn to capture what she saw as quickly and accurately as she could, often setting herself the discipline of an hour per ‘sketch’, with the aid of an alarm clock.
